The Sun will leave Leo for Virgo at 6.33 am on August 23, some 10 hours before the Virgo New Moon at 4.06 pm later on that day!

The luminaries will be separating from asteroid Ishtar and making a tight square to Uranus and Sedna in Gemini! So, expect the unexpected and be extra careful about making balanced choices. This of course will connect them into the Talent Triangle, but by awkward quincunx aspects to both Pluto in Aquarius and Saturn/Neptune in Aries. Some adjustments will be required to work together productively. This will be a Yod or Finger of God pattern with the New Moon as the focal point.

There will be a helpful opposition to asteroid Persephone at 3 Pisces 26’, but a bit on the wide side. A tricky time with work needed on the deep unconscious, as she is Pluto’s Queen of the Underworld.

The Virgo New Moon will be in the 1st degree of Virgo, just 23 minutes of arc into the sign. So, of course there will be a second Virgo New Moon on September 22, not only a really Blue Moon, but also a Partial Solar Eclipse!

The Sabian symbol for this first Virgo New Moon is “In a portrait, the significant features of a man’s head are artistically emphasized”. This speaks of the capacity to picture oneself clearly, the salient features and the overall meaning of any life situation, a very Virgoan quality, discrimination!

The asteroid Osiris will be in Gemini by the Virgo New Moon on August 23, and will have just moved past Sedna by a mere 28 minutes of arc. Osiris was the Egyptian Neter representing the fertility of the land, so connected to Hopi in nature, and to Urania through his dependence on the rising of the Nile, which was influenced by the rising of the Fixed Star Sirius. So there will be strong themes of caring for the land and attending to the wisdom from the land and the starry skies above us.

Mars will have moved on by this time, but the warlike Astarte will still form the opposition position in the Kite. She is strong in the rulership of Venus, so the potential for increased aggressive behaviours will remain.

Sol and Luna will be separating from asteroid Ishtar, another Goddess of Love and War, as well as fertility, originating from Mesapotamia. This lunation will form the apex point of a Yod or Finger of God aspect pattern, connecting to Pluto and Saturn through tight quincunx aspects! Adjustment will be needed to meet the demands of this first of two Virgo New Moons, a true “Blue Moon”. How can the needs of the Earth’s fertility be balanced against continuing war mongering!

With the Sun and Moon in the sign of Virgo for the New Moon, the general focus will be on:

• Developing how we can be of service in the world, who and how we can mentor others
• Using our analytical abilities to emphasize the positives in ourselves rather than beat ourselves up for all the things we can be critical of
• Give with an open heart not because we feel we are expected too, learn when to say no
• Channel our nervous energy into making speedy responses rather than procrastinating
• Develop healthy habits and routines around exercise and eating, looking after our bodies
• Organise our environment and our minds, get rid of clutter that we don’t need
• Finding a passion that we would like to research and learn about
• Writing the book we have always meant to write

The area most aligned with the position of the New Moon can be best gleaned from your natal horoscope chart, however if you only know your Sun Sign, then affirmations around the areas indicated on the next page are likely to be the most powerful, some adjustment may be required to the adjacent life areas:
