The Aquarius New Moon-Partial Solar Eclipse ushers in the Chinese New Year of the Earth Dog, tomorrow February 16 at 8.05 am (AEDT), at 27 degrees and 07 minutes of Aquarius.  The double Earth symbolism of the Earth Dog echoes the astrological energy for 2018 with Uranus joining Pluto and Saturn in an Earth sign when he enters Taurus in May.  It is a year where reality will set in and the rubber hits the road!

The Sabian symbol for 28 degrees of Aquarius is “A tree felled and sawed to ensure a supply of wood for the winter”, intelligent foresight or knowledge and skill used in its natural surroundings for the satisfaction of vital basic needs.  It teaches us to be more thoughtful in the way we use up our natural resources, even though this can be necessary to survive at times.

This is one powerful New Moon as the monthly alignment of the luminaries will merge energy with the asteroid Juno, Mercury and asteroid Hygeia, forming the focal point of a T Square with Jupiter and the asteroid Anubis in Scorpio, opposite to the plutoid Sedna with Pele and Isis in Taurus. this provides themes around healing wounds caused by betrayals of trust in love.  In Aquarius this New Moon presents an opportunity to transform our thinking and renew our visionary powers, through changing our higher mind’s version of reality.

A tight and practical sextile from Mercury to Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius, binds our intellect more strongly into the equation. In effect Mercury is also eclipsed by being sandwiched between the luminaries and the South Node, facilitating communication between the higher and lower octaves of our mind.

A South Node focused eclipse always involves letting go of something to make space to bring in the new, this is further emphasized by the square to Jupiter in Scorpio letting go to transform and grow. Energetically this empowers our ability to get to the root of entrenched patterns, the areas where we have become most fixed and attached, making new solutions available.

Juno’s square to her partner Jupiter signals the possibility of creating our own rules for relationship, better suited to our own Uranian uniqueness, helping us also heal any wounds from betrayals in past relationships by deepening self-love through the path of the Leo North Node.

Ancient Greek and Babylonian astrologers established that eclipses repeat within a degree of each other every 18 years identifying the Saros Series, the current eclipse series was named “1 South”   The meaning ascribed to this series by Bernadette Brady is around ideas and their enthusiastic expression.  If you have planets, or house cusps especially angles within a degree or so of 27 degrees of Aquarius, Taurus Leo or Scorpio you are likely to be flooded with ideas and options, make sure you act upon them!  It is not often that we receive eclipses with such a positive flavour!

With the Sun and Moon in the sign of Aquarius, the energy focus that balances this is on:

• Being a humanitarian, concerned about the environment, resources and animals
• Putting the needs of the community above your own
• Challenging conventional thinking, seeking fairness and equality
• Becoming involved in group activities with your tribe of likeminded people
• Seeking freedom and the ability to detach from your emotional patterning
• Being true to your individuality
• Coming up with original and unique inspirational ideas
• Increasing your knowledge in what makes people behave the way they do

The area most aligned with the position of the Aquarius New Moon can be best gleaned from your natal horoscope chart, however if you only know your Sun Sign, then affirmations around the areas indicated below are likely to be the most powerful, but some adjustment may be required to the life areas below:
